BREADBOTTOM

Combo Clue

Grain that is grown worldwide, and a common food made from that grain.

📖 How I Solved It

I dove into puzzle #550 on Halloween, thinking it would be a fun little challenge. The combo clue about a grain grown worldwide had me stumped at first. I kept thinking about various grains but couldn't connect them to a common food. I was pretty sure 'oatmeal' was a valid guess, but that didn't fit. Eventually, I remembered wheat and how it’s used to make bread. The word ladder was tricky too! I got mixed up with 'cheat' and 'cleat' for a bit; those two were confusing for me. I couldn't get 'bleat' right away, but once I pictured a sheep, it clicked. By the time I reached 'bread', I felt like I had conquered a mini-mountain. It was a wild ride, but worth it!
